The following information applies to state offices and party central committees. The procedure and deadlines for the Presidential primary are different and are explained in this article. For a discussion of central committee elections, see this article.

Important Dates

January 4, 2016 – February 25, 2016	Candidates for Public Office, Gather Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fees
January 4, 2016 – March 11, 02016	Candidates for Central Committees, Gather Nomination Signatures
February 15, 2016 – March 11, 2016	Candidates for Public Office, Gather Nomination Signatures
February 15, 2016 – February 25, 2016	Candidates for Public Office, Signatures Submitted Between these Dates Count Toward Both Nomination Signatures and Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fees
February 26, 2016 – March 11, 2016	Candidates for Public Office, Gather Supplemental Signatures in Lieu
March 12, 2016 – March 16, 2016	If Incumbent Fails to Meet the Deadline for Public Office, an Extension is given To Gather Signatures in Lieu (This does not apply to a termed out incumbent)
April 11, 2016 – May 24, 2016	Write-in Candidates for Public Office, Gather Nomination Signatures (No Filing Fees and No Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fees)
June 7, 2016 – 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.	Primary Day

Numbers of Signatures Required

Candidates for Central Committees	20 valid signatures of Peace and Freedom Party registrants out of a maximum of 30 or 2% of the number of Peace and Freedom Party registrations in the county or district, whichever is LESS.
Public Office Nomination Signatures	Candidates for State Assembly, State Senate, State Board of Equalization and U.S. House need no less than 40 or more than 60 signatures from registered voters in the district. Candidates for U.S. Senate need no less than 65 valid signatures or more than 100 signatures.
Public Office Signatures in Lieu	Candidates for State Assembly need 1,500 signatures, State Senate and U.S. House need 3,000 signatures from any registered voters in the district. Candidates for U.S. Senate need 10,000 valid signatures from any registered voters in the state.
